School Improvement Plan

The mission of Woodland Middle School is to provide opportunities and experiences in a nurturing environment so students will become responsible individuals, independent thinkers, productive citizens, and lifelong learners.

Statement of Philosophy

The administration, staff, and parents of Woodland Middle School recognize that the middle school years represent a unique and significant period in the life of the child.  We also recognize that the educational experience offered the student during this time should be different from what has gone on before in elementary or what will follow after in high school.  In order to provide a learning environment that nurtures the individuality and uniqueness of the middle school child, the educational program must be structured to:

  • prepare the student to be an effective and independent learner;
  • help the student develop a positive attitude toward his/her physical self;
  • help him/her acquire the skills and attitude necessary for effective participation in a democratic society; and
  • help him/her develop a sense of dignity and a positive self-concept while respecting the rights of others and the dignity of all.

The educational program must be structured to aid in the transition from childhood to adolescence.  In order to accommodate individual learning styles, a variety of instructional strategies must be utilized.  Emphasis must be placed on individualizing instruction in both academic and non-academic courses.  Techniques must be utilized that will enhance student motivation to achieve, and all successful experiences and accomplishments must be recognized and rewarded.  All of these efforts are geared toward making Woodland a school where teaching and learning comes first.

In accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Fulton County School System and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the staff of Woodland Middle School has evaluated the past performance of the school and has prepared its annual strategic plan.  Please click on the link below to view Woodland’s strategic plan.  Adobe Acrobat is required to open the document.  A copy of the plan is available for review at the school.
