Math Maniacs
(en Espanol)
The PTA has begun an exciting, new math program for students focusing on problem solving skills called Math Maniacs. In the math classroom, the students are learning how to solve various word problems using more than one strategy and showing their work through pictures, words, and numbers. Problem solving is a key component of the CRCT that students in grades 1-5 are assessed on each year. We would like to get the students excited about problem solving through this program.
Every 2 weeks the students will complete a worksheet containing word problems at their grade level. There is one worksheet for students in grades K-2 and another worksheet for students in grades 3-5. The students will complete as many problems as they can on the worksheet. The students must do the work on their own without parent help.
The students will turn in the worksheet to their homeroom teacher by the due date listed on the worksheet. The worksheets will then be handed in to the PTA. Every student that turns in a worksheet completing as many problems as they can will receive 2 Spirit Store Tickets for their participation. The students who have correctly answered the problems will then be placed into a drawing for different prizes each month. Some students will also be able to go on the Wildcat News Show to share their method of solving certain word problems.
Please encourage your child to participate in this exciting new math program. If you have any questions, please contact Michelle Williams at michellemwilliams@comcast.net or at 770-317-1521.
