It is with much enthusiasm we welcome you and your children to the 2007-2008 school year at Woodland Elementary Charter School! It has been another exceptional year of education evident by the strong CRCT scores. Again, we credit our principal, Dr. Noris Price, and our teachers’ and staff’s continued dedication and commitment to our children! On a rather sad note, Dr. Price will be leaving Woodland and be moving forward to a new challenge as Associate Superintendent in the Clarke County School District in Athens, Georgia. We wish her the best in all her endeavors and are confident that she will continue to make contributions to strengthen the public school systems as she has done here. Even though we will miss her, she has helped to lay the foundation at Woodland so that the teachers, staff, parents, and students of Woodland will work together to take the school to a new level of educational excellence.
We invite you to attend Woodland’s Open House on August 8 for grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 and August 9 for grades PK, K, 1, SNP, SNK, and MOID, beginning promptly at 5:30 PM. It is during this time you will join PTA, visit your child’s classroom, meet his/her teacher, purchase lunch tickets, register for after school programs, and be advised of bus routes. Also during the Open House you will have the opportunity to purchase new and gently used uniforms and other school memorabilia from the PTA Spirit Store.
As part of our Charter, all families are required to join the PTA. Studies have proven that getting involved by volunteering our time and energy supports the education of our children and makes it fun for you! We hope you will join us in the numerous activities, programs, and events we have planned this year! PTA membership forms will be available during Open House.
During the first week of school, August 13-17, we will kick off our Sally Foster fundraiser. We encourage you to fully participate in the Sally Foster fundraiser because it is Woodland’s main school-wide fundraiser and is a vital part of the funding that directly supports our outstanding events and programs.
We are happy to announce that the much-anticipated addition to the school building is complete and will house all 5 th and two 4 th grade classes in the bottom floor (connecting to the gym) and all 2 nd grade classes in the top level. The new wing also has a spacious and beautiful science lab perfect for our children to explore. There will be a ribbon-cutting dedication ceremony on September 12.
When it comes to Woodland’s PTA, we strive to create a better educational environment for our children. Woodland’s PTA is for the children – every single one of them. On behalf of the Executive Board of the PTA, we welcome you back and look forward to seeing you at the Open House!
