What is a Graduation Coach?
A Graduation Coach is a new position within the State of Georgia which was created to address the dropout problems within the state. The High School Graduation Coach will be actively engaged in high school graduation assistance activities, including but not limited to working with identified students, school faculty/staff, parents/guardians, & community members. The High School Graduation Coach will work to improve graduation rates for all population subgroups within the school by performing the following duties & responsibilities:
o Use data to identify high school students with the high probability of not graduating.
o Work with students to develop a graduation & achievement plan to include the best program to meet academic & post-secondary goals.
o Assist in credit recovery programming.
o Individual counseling
o Small group guidance
o Community collaboration & outreach
Who are the students who will be served by the Graduation Coach?
The targeted student populations that the Graduation Coach will work with are those students who are significantly impacted by one or more of the following criteria:
o Retention within high school years
o Failure to pass section(s) of Georgia High School Graduation Test
o Credit deficient
o Failure on End of Course Tests
o Poor/Irregular Attendance
o Failure on 8th grade CRCT (9th grade students only)
o “Placed” into next grade level (not promoted)
o Non-school related challenges

To graduate more students within 4 years and make a significant decrease in high school dropout rates!!! |
