Mission Statement
Westlake High School has renewed its commitment to ensuring that all student-athletes receive full benefits of the educational experience achieving academic excellence and student success. The Lions Athletics Academy assists student-athletes in realizing and maintaining high levels of academic success. Although the primary focus is on academics and the rigors of studying in the school environment, student-athletes must learn to successfully combine academic and life endeavors along with athletic ones.
Academic Eligibility Requirement
Student-athletes are expected to meet certain rules and requirements in order to remain academically eligible to participate in his/her sport. In essence, to be eligible to participate in any sport at Westlake High School, students must demonstrate the following:
- All incoming freshmen are eligible to play any sport in the fall (after the first report card in January, they must pass 5 out of 6 classes)
- Every athlete must continue to be on track for graduation throughout their high school career
- Hoor and self-respect at all times
- Dignity inside and outside of our school
- Good Character
Requirements to Play
Every athlete needs to have the following:
- Current physical on file
- Insurance waiver and parent permission form on file
Academic Academy
- All freshmen are required to attend our Athletic Academy during their season. Their academic progress will be monitored weekly. (tutorial type study hall is available in the morning, during lunch and after school).
- Athletes that maintain a B average will serve minimal study hall requirements to assist other athletes. Their grades will also be monitored weekly.
- All the athletes must show academic progress toward passing their class weekly or they will not be allowed to play that week.
