Principal's Passage
Dear Parents,
Because our enrollment in 4th grade is lower than expected at the beginning of school, we have had to disband a class at that grade level and surplus our most recently hired teacher to another school in need. This change in our staff allotment is part of the 10-day count process described in last week's newsletter. Our staff and students are adjusting well to these recent changes, and I appreciate all the support of our parents whose students have been affected by all these events. We are fortunate to have outstanding teachers and support staff who have rallied to the cause to assist students and teachers. And we will all be ready to meet and greet parents at Curriculum Nights next week!
Curriculum Nights are one of our most important events in the beginning of the year. Here parents will get a brief overview of their students' daily instruction, schedule and curriculum summary for the school year. Our teachers have prepared good and helpful information for you to learn more about your child's school day.
Our PTA will have budget information to share as well on Curriculum Nights. Volunteers have been working daily to plan all of the curriculum enrichment activities, family fun, and fund-raising events, so please come on time at 6:30 to hear what our PTA has in store for us all!
Congratulations to our very own PE teacher, Rick Johnson! Check out the link in the PE News article in this issue. We are so proud of you, Mr. Johnson!!

A Few Reminders from the P.E. Department
Please remember to have your child wear sneakers on P.E. days. In the warm weather, we tend to see a lot of sandals so we appreciate your help in keeping your children safe by having them wear their sneakers on P.E. days

Technology Initiative!
One of the first and most critical initiatives of the Foundation is to equip Summit Hill with interactive white boards. Our school is supported with technology resources defined as basic specifications in alignment with state guidelines. Our school system maintains and updates those items mandated by "educational specifications," but when a school seeks to enhance or add to those items, the administrator has limited resources for additional technological resources. Summit Hill has a community of students who need the challenge of up-to-date hardware and software. The foundation will support advancements in technology beyond state and county specifications more in keeping with the experiences that students have available to them in today's world. More specifically, the foundation will support the purchase, installation, and maintenance of interactive whiteboards in all grade levels over a period of the next 3 years. Summit Hill's school improvement plan is designed around improving student achievement in reading, through concentrations on written expression. The use of these interactive whiteboards allows student immediate feedback and collaborative discussion. It is through this high-level discussion that we feel that writing will evolve. The visual model that the interactive whiteboard offers students makes editing visual, tactile, and meaningful.
Let's provide the best learning resources for our Summit Hill children! To support this technology initiative, foundation donations can be mailed to the school or dropped by the front desk. For questions or comments please email summithillfoundation@gmail.com. Thank you for investing in our children!

IT'S MOVIE NIGHT ON THE LAWN
Come and join us for a night of fun with the family. We will be showing the movie "Hotel for Dogs" on September 11th at 6:30 p.m. with the movie starting at dusk. So pack up the whole family, bring a blanket, and your own picnic dinner. Popcorn, candy, and bottled water will be available for purchase. We will be collecting canned food for the North Fulton Community Charities Food Pantry. REMEMBER... Movie Night is a family event and not a drop off event. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Hope to see you there!

CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION
If there is a change in the manner in which a child is to leave school, the teacher must receive a note from the parent stating the change; otherwise, the child will be sent home in the usual manner. Do not rely on email to notify the teacher of any changes. Please do not call the school with changes unless it is an emergency. Please note that children may not ride any bus other than their assigned bus. In the event of an emergency, please contact the Transportation Department (770-667-2970). |

It's Time to be on Time!
Students are considered tardy if they arrive in the building after 7:45 a.m. In order to start the day smoothly and minimize the interruptions caused by late arriving students, please see that your child is on time. After 7:45, all late students, accompanied by a parent, must stop by the office, sign in, and get a pass to class stating reasons for tardiness. Students may then proceed to their classrooms. Students riding Fulton County Board of Education buses will not be counted tardy if the bus arrives late. At times, we may choose not to count students tardy due to inclement weather and unforeseen traffic problems. Thank you for your cooperation.
