Healthy Kids, Smart Kids
Healthy Kids Smart Kids was created by Dr. Yvonne Sanders-Butler. After a life changing experience, Dr. Butler joined a support group, and learned the importance of eating healthy meals, and physical fitness. Following a routine exercise schedule, she has well balanced meals of fresh fruits and vegetables, and lean poultry.
Yvonne Sanders-Butler devoted herself to improving the health of her community, by establishing a Sugar Free Zone Wellness Program. The program not only led to healthier students, but higher test scores, fewer disciplinary referrals, and fewer weight problems with students. To share in her knowledge of proper eating, and physical fitness, she wrote “Healthy Kids, Smart Kids.”
Sandtown Middle School is proud to be a Sugar Free Zone. We believe a Healthy Kid is a Smart Kid.

Healthy Eating Tip:
HOW TO SELECT A HEALTHIER SNACK
When hunger hits between meals or late at night, we often reach for the easy-to-eat foods like chips or cookies. How can you help keep your snacks healthier? Keep pre-cut veggies in your fridge, or single-serving cups of fruit of applesauce in your cupboard. Stock up on nuts, low-fat crackers, and healthy spreads like hummus to concoct a nutritious (but delicious) snack for when your stomach starts rumbling.
