The RNES Media Center operates with students and teachers as our top priority.
Materials are purchased with the focus of supporting curriculum for all of our patrons and providing leisure reading for students. When selecting reading material a variety of points are considered, including reading levels and interest, bias, student demographic, and subject matter. They are chosen from professional review journals and websites as well as suggestions from patrons.
Roswell North uses Accelerated Reader as a reading incentive program and as a support tool in our reading curriculum. Each student has an individually assigned level and should read in that level if choosing to read for AR testing. We strive for a balanced collection - books are not chosen only to support Accelerated Reader, but to appeal to the interests of our students and with the goal of hooking them as life long readers.
Our library operates on a flexible schedule; this means that teachers sign up for lessons when needed. The lessons are taught by the certified media specialist. Lessons are developed and planned to support the GPS and to encourage interest and personal commitment to the library and to teach students library skills.
21st century library skills include the use of technology and evaluating websites as well as learning dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia skills and how to find the just right book.
Parents are welcome to check out books too. We ask that you limit yourself to 5 per visit!
Students in grades 1 - 4 may check out up to 2 books per visit and may keep them for 2 weeks. They may be renewed or returned early. Kindergarten children may check out 1 book per visit and 5th graders may have 3. If a student loses or damages a book we do ask for payment. Papercover books are $5 and hardback books are $20. if the book is found before the end of school a refund will be given.
We LOVE volunteers! Whether your schedule allows several hours a week or a few hours during the entire year, you are welcome in our library.
If you have questions please feel free to email or call: 770-552-6320.
