A Message From Our Principal

Teacher of the Year Our Principal! International Night

Cheryl Williams, Principal

Welcome to Mimosa Elementary School, home of the Manatees!  Thank you for visiting our website.  Mimosa is a school that celebrates student success in a safe, nurturing and positive environment.  We strive for excellence with a continued focus on student achievement for all children. This is made possible through the collaborative efforts of our dedicated staff, our supportive parents, our involved community and our outstanding students.

Our conscientious staff works hard to ensure we provide the best educational experience possible for each child every day.  Our teachers meet weekly to discuss student progress and routinely participate in best practices activities and course work through our Mimosa University staff development program.  Additionally, a number of our staff members, including five National Board Certified teachers, have been recognized in various ways for their contributions to the profession.

We have an active Parent Teacher Association (PTA) who assists our school efforts through fundraisers and family activity nights such as Skate Night, Family Movie Night and Bingo Night.  The PTA also awards grants to teachers and provides volunteers for many school activities.  The Mimosa PTA has received the Golden Apple Award for volunteerism from the state PTA since 1997.

Through school partnerships and community volunteers we provide our students and parents with enrichment and tutoring activities.  Our Whiz Kids tutoring program, our Families Learning at Home and School program (FLASH) for non-English speaking parents, our Computer Lab assistants and our Mimosa Mentors program are just a few of our offerings that are supported by our community.  Two of our partners, Alpharetta Presbyterian Women’s Club and UPS Supply Chain have been selected as Fulton County Outstanding Partners of the Year.

Perhaps our greatest strength is our students.  Our children have consistently met national and state requirements established by the No Child Left Behind Act. These achievements earned our school the 2005 Title 1 Distinguished School award.  In addition, students participate in a number of activities to showcase their talents and interests.  Chess Club, Math Club, Gardening Club, Red Cross Club, Student Council, Safety Patrols and Book Publishing are just a few of the offerings.

As you can see, we are very busy learning at Mimosa.  If this is your first look at us, we invite you to visit our campus and meet our dedicated, professional staff.  As a Title 1 Distinguished School we are always eager to share information about Mimosa….
