Mrs. Williams' Book of the Year

Mrs. Williams, our principal, loves to read books! Every year she chooses a children's book to share with the staff and students. She uses the book to help set the tone for the school year and give students and staff an encouraging message that will get their year off to just the right start for learning.

Finding the right book is no small task for Mrs. Williams. she spends many hours over the summer on the web, in libraries, and in book stores looking for the "perfect" book with just the right message. Although it is sometimes hard, she keeps the title of the book a secret until the staff and children arrive for the new year.

This year, the book she chose was Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watt. Here is a little about the book in a nutshell: Scaredy Squirrel never leaves his nut tree. He is afraid of many things including germs, sharks, poison ivy, and the unknown. However he is always prepared for the worst with his handy-dandy emergency kit. That is until one day, when he is forced from his tree and has a life-changing experience. You will have to read the book to find out what happens. Scaredy Squirrel also has his own website - check it out at www.scaredysquirrel.com.

We hope you like the book as much as we did when Mrs. Williams read it to us. Here are some other books she has shared that you may enjoy, too:

2007-2008 Today I Will Fly by Mo Willems

2006-2007 The Little Engine That Could by Watty Piper

2005-2006 The Dot by peter H. Reynolds
