J. C. Futrell has over 30 years of diverse experience in education, radio, television, and entertainment production.
Mr. Futrell’s interest was peaked in high school when he and a few other students built a radio station out of spare parts. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Radio/TV Film from Shaw University, Master’s degree from American InterContinental University and continues to work toward his PhD in Educational Leadership.
His career in the entertainment industry as manager and tour manager has afforded him the opportunities to work directly and indirectly with audio/video productions and supervision of audio-video recording and playback with the use of cameras, recorders, character generators and satellite or teleconference equipment. He is one of the architects of America’s first major hip hop tour, The Fresh Fest that was instrumental in launching the careers of Run-DMC, Fat Boys, Whodini and Jermaine Dupri.
Doubling as road manager/sound engineer for the “Fat Boys” J.C. traveled all over the world applying his skills as administrator, technician and educator. He has also toured with Luther Vandross, Anita Baker, Keith Sweat, Eric B & Rakim, Kool Mo Dee, and national stage plays including Beauty Shop, Come Outof the Rain, Mama, I Wanna Sing and The Diary of Blackmen.
Mr. Futrell comes from the long line of entrepreneurs that have been in his family since 1890. Four generations of Futrell’s have owned businesses including a drayman business, restaurants, grocery stores, billiard halls, laundry business, seamstress, upholstery, real estate, concert promotions, artist management, music recording company label, audio/video production and graphic design.
Prior becoming an educator, Mr. Futrell applied his patented smooth baritone voice for WKFT-TV, WLLE, WSRC, WQMG, WSHA and WRAL-TV.
