Anita Lee, Principal

The faculty and staff of Frank McClarin High School are working diligently to ensure that all students graduate with a high school diploma. In order to accomplish these endeavor students must pass all segments of the Georgia High School Graduation Test and successfully complete all required courses.
This year teachers are dedicating ten minutes per class period to the Georgia Performance Standards. This is a review opportunity for students to receive reinforcement in the elements, vocabulary, and strands of the test. Students who participate in this activity will receive the benefits of reinforcing skills, building skills, learning new skills, and gaining confidence when it is time to take the Georgia High School Graduation Test. All students who have not taken or passed all segments of the Georgia High School Graduation Test are required to take the GHSGT Prep during the second period of each day. Students who are assigned the GHSGT Prep will be allowed to take the GHSGT in September and November. First Time Test Takers will be assigned to the second period prep class in November. They will take the test in March. The First Time Test Takers are the students who determine our Average Yearly Progress. Their test participation rate, the number of students who take the test and pass it will determine if we make AYP. Also included in the AYP is the number of students who graduate with a full diploma. Students who stay enrolled in the GHSGT Prep class for the entire semester will receive .50 credit for their full participation in the class.
We have added PLATO to our curriculum offerings. This computer based learning system allows students to work at their own pace in various courses required for graduation. Students must be self-motivated, disciplined, and have the ability to work independently. The PLATO lab is monitored by a highly qualified teacher in their content area. Students enrolled in PLATO can decrease the amount of required seat time by working on their assignments at home, since this is a web-based program. Students may not take the required test at home. All testing must be done in the lab and monitored by their assigned teacher. PLATO can only be used for students who need to make up repeat classes.SAT Prep information is available to all students interested in enrolling in a four year program. Join the winners by participating in this prep program. See Mr. Joel Bohannon for your password to this web-based program.
The students of Frank McClarin High School are required to meet the standards for AYP. This means students must graduate on time, attend school daily, and meet all academic requirements including passing the Georgia High School Graduation Test and understand that as a first time test taker in the 11th grade their participation in the testing process affects the school tremendously.
The media center is opened daily until 3:30 p.m. Students may use the computers to review Georgia High School Graduation Test Prep information, SAT Prep, Links to Learning, and PLATO. STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO SURF PERSONAL SITES ON THE SCHOOLS COMPUTERS. Please see Ms. Norris, Media Specialist for assistance.Students are also required to attend their first period class which is dedicated to Character Education. Students must be enrolled in the Character Education Program for a full year in order to earn .50 elective credit.
Students who have earned 16 or more credits and have successfully passed all segments of the Georgia High School Graduation Test may waive their seat time requirement. Students may work at their own rate of progress. They are required to take the End of Course Test which counts as 15% of their final grade.
Ten or more days of absence will result in a student being withdrawn from school.
Students are required to attend class from 8:00 until 3:20 if they are enrolled in Character Education and Georgia High School Graduation Test Prep classes. Students will not be released from school due to work schedules. They are required to adjust their work schedules around the school day.Our motto for the year is: It’s A Heart Thing! Is Your Heart in It?
