MULTICULTURAL DAY

Independence High School celebrates an annual Multicultural Day. We are proud of our culturally diverse student and staff population. The purpose of this festival is to recognize our diversity and celebrate our cultural roots.

Multicultural Day 2008:

Weeks of planning, research and hard work culminated in Independence High School's 12th annual Multicultural Day celebration on April 24th.

Classes were encouraged to choose a country, research it, then decorate their classroom door to reflect that country's culture, geography, economy and whatever other information they wanted to convey. Also, students and staff brought in food representative of the country to be enjoyed on the football field along with entertainment and activities.

From "Toyland" (Daycare) to Tibet (Ms. Singh) we passed through a total of 24 countries. What a wonderful journey it was! Please enjoy the photos below which are links to photo albums of many more beautiful illustrations of the hard work and fun everyone experienced during this exciting event. (See note below on using albums.)

Congratulations to the students who worked on the Counseling Department's door and hallway for their representation of France. They were awarded first place by our judges, followed by Mr Jester's students (Jamaica), Ms. Wells' students (Ghana) with Honorable Mention awarded to the students who decorated the Media Center door (Bermuda) and to Ms. Denby's students presenting The Republic of Congo. Please view the photo album to see these along with all of the others. Everyone did an outstanding job!
