
PTA Presents Red Ribbon Week
October 27th-31st
Red Ribbon Week celebrates our choice to live a healthy, drug-free life. Our theme for this year is “Elect To Be Drug-Free: Vote For A Drug-Free Lifestyle!” There will be a fun week of activities, contests, prizes and a very special school-wide assembly on Thursday, 10/30 presented by The Freestyle Connection, an extreme BMX Bike show.”
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15, EARLY RELEASE DAY
DISMISSAL AT 11:20 AM
Please read this important information:
The school day will begin as usual at 7:50am.
Dismissal will begin at 11:20am.
The daily class periods will be compressed.
There will be no lunch period; students will eat bag lunches in the classroom (bring from home or purchase in cafeteria).
The after school drama class, “Let’s Pretend” and the “Imagine That” technology class will meet at dismissal.
Primetime students will report to Primetime at dismissal, as usual.
Please complete a change of transportation form if you child will be going home a way different than their usual Wednesday plan.
Teachers and staff members will be attending professional development workshops after dismissal.
Reflections Program
2008-2009 Theme: WOW

The Reflections Program is an opportunity for students to be creative and express themselves through the arts. PTA believes children deserve a quality arts education, and now in its 39th year, Reflections has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to creatively express themselves.
Students can choose from 4 categories: Literature, Photography, Visual Arts and Dance. Students may enter as many times as they wish.
Reflections Deadlines
September 29th
Reflections program begins, students learn about The Art of Expression to help them create works of art.
October 2nd
Entry forms go home
October 21st
Entries must be turned in to the Media Center by 2:30 pm
November 6th
Winners announced and advance to Council level
January 9th
Council winners announced at the Council Reflections Reception
February (Date TBA)
Awards presented at Hillside’s Art Day
March 22nd
State winners announced and advance to National
In classrooms, students will be learning about the creative process through The Art of Expression mini lessons, which will help students understand:
- their interests and strengths
- how to brainstorm
- what is uniqueness
- how to communicate to an audience
At home, you can encourage your child to participate by using The Art of Expression found in your child’s Reflections packet.

Fall Festival October 17th
Our annual Fall Festival is next Friday, October 17th from 4:30-7:30pm. Tickets purchased before Monday, October 13th are 4 for $1.00, after Monday they will be 3 for $1.00. Prepaid wristbands are available for $22.00 until October 13th. (The wristband allows the child unlimited access to all games and attractions—food and rock wall are not included.)
We still need volunteers for all shifts, please email Angie Morris at bamorris1@yahoo.com if you are able to help out.
Also, items are still being collected for the silent auction. Please bring your donated items to the Front Desk or send them in with your child. Contact Leah Ward at lhward@bellsouth.net if you or your company have any donation of products or services for the auction |
