Behavior Management
School-Wide Behavior Modification Plan
Crossroads North has an effective school-wide discipline model that lends itself
to the creation of a positive learning environment. A four step level system tracks
daily progress and addresses behavior concerns based on four primary goals:
-
Be in Place
-
Be Prepared
-
Be Plugged In
-
Be Polite
Each of the four levels has a set number of possible daily points to be earned, which then determines a successful or unsuccessful day for students. These points are tallied from each class period of the day. Parents then receive a daily point sheet tracking every period with explanations of any deduction of points. Students begin on level 1 and progress through to level 4 after earning and maintaining 15 successful days of good behavior at each level.
Reward and recognition are motivators for good behavior, and will be key aspects of the Behavior Modification Plan. For example, students who are without a disciplinary infraction, and are able to earn 15 successful days of good behavior as measured by our four basic behavioral goals, periodically receive recognition at our level celebrations.
Academic Life Skills
This course is a social skills class requirement of all students enrolled. Many may earn elective/connections course credit for this class. The curriculum for our framework is produced by the Search Institute as well as the following 5 basic core areas:
-
Interpersonal Skills
-
School Success Skills
-
Assertiveness Training
-
Communication Skills
-
Functional Life Skills
The Crossroads Second Chance North's student has been found guilty of violating the Students Code of Conduct (by a Disciplinary Tribunal or waiver). There has either been an exhausting of the discipline cycle, or if there's no discipline record on file for the student, the said behavior is considered an immediate tribunal offense.
The program's primary purpose is to help students grow into positive young people by learning acceptable behavior norms that will enable them to make better decisions; develop healthy and optimistic attitudes about their futures; and engage in constructive and sound practices.
