Growth & Discovery
Though we are proficient in the science of teaching and know the subjects inside and out, yet if we do not actively love our  students, it profits very little.  Love knows no limits to its patience, no end to its hope,  no  fading of its encouragement Love is, in fact, the one quality that denotes a real teacher-- and a real person.
The second grade year at Creek View Elementary is one of growth and discovery, filled with new responsibilities and an increasing level of independence.  Second grade students learn to take on daily tasks modeled by their teacher, such as copying homework assignments into their student agendas, recording reading log entries, and completing and turning in homework assignments Monday through Thursday.  In second grade, students receive letter grades for the first time, calculated by percentage.
Second grade students begin reading their first chapter books and learn to incorporate spelling, phonics, and language skills into their daily writing.  In the second grade year, students continue to reach for the stars with "Rocket Math", one minute timed tests to master basic math facts and participate in a curriculum rich with manipulatives that help students to learn by doing.
Second grade students participate in a spectrum of exciting activities including Pumpkin Math and Science Day,  Native American crafts, hands-on science experiments with visiting science professionals, and Book Buddy activities with fifth grade student partners, just to name a few.  During the second grade year, students will study the state of Georgia. Students will explore Georgia's landforms, take a closer look at the native people of Georgia, learn more about Georgia's settlers and the founding of our state, as well as learn about Georgians like Martin Luther King, Jr and Jimmy Carter who had a huge impasct on important national changes stemming from the Civil Rights and Human Rights movements.
