KIDS Go GREEN!

As part of the Environmental Education in the state of Georgia, Creek View Elementary was recognized for achieving the “Green School” status.  The award and certificate was presented at the Chattahoochee Nature Center on May 8, 2008 by Terry Porter, Environmental Director for the City of Alpharetta.

The application and goals for becoming a “Green School” was submitted and written at the beginning of the school year.  Throughout the school year, the Environmental Committee at Creek View launched several recycling and reusing campaigns.  In September, we asked students and staff to donate towels for the humane society.

The next project was entitled “PB&J.”  Students and staff donated clean peanut butter and jelly jars for recycling.  In addition to recycling water bottles, ink cartridges, and cell phones, students donated eyeglasses to the Lions Club.  Fourth grade students started the school’s first Green Garden Club.  An outdoor classroom and a bluebird trail are environmentally friendly new additions to our school.

Next year at Creek View, we are increasing our recycling program to include paper products.  This new program will make a huge impact at our school.  In addition, we will begin a third grade Environmental Club for students to become more involved.

Congratulations to Creek View for becoming a “Green School” and continuing to help save our planet!

We are a Green School!
