There is an emphasis on responsibility and independence...

TThe fourth grade year at Creek View Elementary is very exciting for the children because they have the opportunity to begin new activities. In addition to after school band and orchestra, the children also have the option of trying out for Creek View's fabulous chorus. Additionally, fourth graders are responsible for running the school store, and will be able to apply to be a 5th grade safety patrol member in the spring.
Academically, the fourth grade year is a transitional time for the students as the teachers begin to emphasize responsibility and independence. Fourth grade students are expected to keep up with daily tasks such as filling out their agenda, speaking to their teachers about completing missed assignments, and using their time wisely, all without teacher assistance. During the fourth grade year, the students also participate in some fun activities such as the Native American potlatch, Colonial Day, and the Mother's Day Tea, in addition to Field Day, and W.R.A.D. Students in fourth grade also have the opportunity to use the weather station as part of their science instruction and weather reporting on the Creek View morning show. Students participate in the Science Lab four times during the year.
In Social Studies, students study regions of the U.S. and Native Americans, European Explorers, Colonial America, the American Revolution, the United States government, Westward Expansion, and personal finance. Students complete a project with each unit.
Math units in fourth grade include place value through millions (whole numbers) and hundredths (decimals), multiplication & division of 2 & 3 digit numbers, weight, 2 & 3 dimensional geometry, data analysis, and the beginnings of algebra.
Students in fourth grade complete a formal writing evaluation every 6 weeks during the school year. Types of writing include a personal narrative, a research report, a persuasive essay, and poetry.
