Students will learn to establish routines and independence...
Virtual Author visit by Diane Z. Shore below:
First grade is an exciting time for Creek View students. Each year the children participate in many hands-on activities focusing on learning. Most of these special activities include parent volunteers. Apple Extravaganza allows the students to use their senses in taste testing, graphing and predicting skills, as well as painting the seasons of an apple tree. Pumpkin Math Day, in October, is a fun-filled time when students use pumpkins and festive candy to explore math concepts. The children take a virtual trip around the globe during our Holidays Around the World Unit and experience an International Food Fest as a closing activity. Another exciting activity first graders participate in is the Young Authors Project. The students use the writing process to create a story that they publish and share with family and friends on Author's Day.
First graders at Creek View encounter many new challenges. Each child will learn to read, write, calculate, reason, problem solve, and work cooperatively with others. First Grade is a year of developmental growth, socially and academically . It is a year in which students will learn to establish routines and independence. They are responsible for homework, spelling words, and have their own desk for the first time. The students become independent readers and begin taking Accelerated Reading tests on the computer. In first grade, students participate in a wide variety of fun and exciting learning experiences that expand their minds and instill a love of learning.
