Students Travel Through History

5th grade is an amazing year!  Students travel through exciting times in United States and World History!  From Reconstruction to the end of the Cold War, students experience events first hand.  Westward Ho! Day recreates travel and life on the Great Plains. Battlefield Cookie Cakes take us into the trenches of World War I.  Flower Power Day brings home the events and discovery of the 60's.  In Science, students experiment with chemicals and vehicle design, as well as delving into animal classification and body systems.  Students also have a blast exploring the changing planet as they see demonstrations of the effects of volcanic and erosion activity.
In and out of the classroom, 5th graders are expected to be leaders and demonstrate personal and academic responsibility.  5th graders are leaders in the school, and their position as role models is used through production of the on-air morning news show, safety patrol, student council, and other activities. Hard work and team spirit are rewarded with several fantastic curriculum related field trips, including an overnight for the entire grade level, as well as many exciting year end festivities.
