Technology Integration for 21st Century Learning Environments
Model Schools Pilot Project
A Pilot Program: Equipping, Supporting, and Inspiring Educational Leaders to create 21 st Century Learning Environments in Georgia Schools
In an effort to improve student achievement and help all Georgia schools become 21st Century learning environments, the Instructional Technology and Media department has launched an innovative 21st Century Model Schools Program. This program will be a collaborative effort involving the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE), Georgia 's Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI), The Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC), and twelve pilot schools across the state.
Twelve pilot schools, including Creek View Elementary, will serve as replicable models of effective classroom technology integration. Ongoing research through 2006 will provide valuable data concerning best practices for improving student achievement and leading technology integration. Teachers will incorporate authentic learning experiences; standards based instruction and appropriate educational technology in their lessons.
Four elementary, four middle, and four high schools from a combination of rural and urban settings across the state will collaborate on the project. The diversity among participating schools will lead to valuable data concerning design, implementation, and assessment. The findings from this research project will provide schools with strategies and proven methods for successful technology integration.
The teachers and leadership teams from each district will be given the hardware and software necessary to carry out their approved pilot project as well as extensive professional development in an effort to support the creation of 21st Century classroom environments. The GADOE, GLISI, and Georgia 's Educational Technology Training Centers (ETTCs) will provide both online and face-to-face training for teachers, administrators, and technology personnel.
