Welcome /Introductions:

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 by Kim Dickinson.  Minutes from the September 26, 2006 meeting were approved as written.

PrincipalŐs Report:

Sonia Terry reported that the schools have been asked to submit their wish lists for improvements we would like to request are made to our school if and when the SPLOST III is voter approved in March.  The plan for improvements would span a 3-5 year period. Projects which would actually be undertaken would be determined by Fulton County. The facility summary of proposed projects submitted by Crabapple Crossing is attached to the hard copy of these minutes.

Old Business:

Early Release Days/ Learning Matters

The early release days have been approved and placed on the calendar for all schools for next year. There will be a total of five early release days.

Crabapple Crossing will have its next early release day on November 29th.  The main topics for professional development on this day will be K-5 writing assessments, curriculum mapping, and planning for an evening of the Arts.

The writing assessments for grades K-5 have been changed by Fulton County.  The teachers will be working on this early release day to understand the changes, and how they can be incorporated into their classroom writing programs. Teachers will also be working to develop rubrics so that the parents and children will have a tool in order to understand exactly what is expected in the writing process and how the studentsŐ writing will be assessed.  A hard copy of the Georgia Performance Standards for K-5 Writing and the grades 3 & 5 writing assessment rubrics are attached to the hard copy of these minutes.

Curriculum maps will be developed at each grade level to map out the years curriculum and how it ties into the current GPS standards.

Erik Johnson from Knowledge Points will provide lunch for the teachers on this day and we thank him for the special attention and teat.

Property Update:

George Freiberger was not available for an update, but Sonia Terry did report that

the proposal for the land use adjacent to Crabapple Crossing has been sent to Phil Martin, the director of facilities for Fulton County, for approval.  The plan has already been approved by the Fulton County Commissioners and now awaits acceptance by Fulton County Schools.

Star Days:

Star Days will continue throughout the school year. Grade levels continue to plan enrichment lessons for the students in the classroom who are not currently involved in the TAG program.  Both the children and the teachers are enjoying STAR DAYS.

Other:

It was requested that Gary Abel or Chris McConnell research the Presidential Physical Fitness Award Program available to the elementary schools.  It is believed that our students complete all of the requirements for the program but we have never officially participated in the program.

New Business:

SPLOST 3

The continuance of this tax will come up for a vote in March of 2007. We must encourage support of this tax as it helps build new facilities for our school system as well as fund improvements for current buildings. Property values are shown to rise in areas with highly credited schools such as CCES.

Melissa Jurgens is the CCE PTA SPLOST III representative.  We must be reminded and educate our fellow community members that this vote is for a renewal of the tax, not a new tax to be added to our current taxes.

Business Partners:

Discussion continues on how the schools are able to help/give back to our business partners who all contribute so much to our schools. Our facilities are available for them in some instances and if there is ever a need for manpower we have students that may be able to help.
