Our members must apply
and meet standards which are established by the National Education Assosciation
in order to qualify for membership in NAHS.
Students
who are members have been seriously involved in the study of art both in
school and outside of school and have usually devoted time to
sharing their art with others in the community.
According
to National Art Education Association standards students must have competed
a minimum of 2 semesters of art and be involved in service
or study of art outside of school.
Applications
for membership are submitted and screened by the
officers and sponsors of the organization. Those who have the best record
of service and commitment to art are selected for membership.
The group has taken part in many projects throughout the
years. The following is a list of some of these projects.
- The group was employed to create a mural on
the walls of two children's bedrooms in a residence in our community. The
children's grandmother had died in one of the bedrooms and the parents
wanted to create a happy and enjoyable atmosphere so that the children would
not be reminded of the death.
- Students painted winter scenes on the windows
of a local grocery store.
- Students worked with residents of a sheltered
workshop in our community to paint an underwater mural on the walls of their
workshop.
- NAHS members worked with members
of an assisted living facility to paint a mural which depicted
a scene from the early 20th Century showing people involved in many leisure activities.
The residents helped paint parts of the mural and suggested images to
be used in the scene. We painted the pet cat of one of the
residents. The residents and staff of the facility treated our students to
a
luncheon where the painting was presented.
- Holiday greeting cards were made and
delivered to the residents throughout the year.
- Students made cards and delivered
them to firemen at our local fire station. These cards expressed that
we are
grateful that the firemen take heroic actions to protect us and the people
in our community.
- Students decorated and painted
birdhouses which were then sold at a fundraiser for North Fulton Community
Charities.
