Clubs and Activities

Special Clubs and Additional Activities:Teacher-sponsored clubs and activities include the Junior Beta Club, the Chess Club, Academic Bowl, Southwestern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering (SECME), Y-Club, Science Fair, Social Studies Fair, Mentoring Program, Peer Tutoring Program, Peer Mediation Program, Drama Club, After Three Reading Program, Early Morning Reading Club, Book of the Month Club, Writing Workshop for Eighth Grade, Math Activities That Help (M.A.T.H) Club, and the After School Intramural Program. The School and d Community Business Partners, the Cajun Crabhouse and the United States Army Reserve Command, provide contributions and incentives in support of the total school program. The United States Army Reserve Command, along with community and parent volunteers, participates in our One-At-A-Time Mentoring Program. Students are recognized and rewarded for achievement, attendance, and appropriate behavior. Field trips to local businesses, college, and cultural sites are encouraged.

Students from local colleges and universities volunteer their time assisting students in the classroom. Our counselors received grants of $8,000 from the State Department of Education for the implementation of the One-At-A-Time Mentoring Program and a $10,000 grant for the implementation of a career center. One of our faculty members received a $1,200 grant in 2001 for the implementation of a Self-Esteem Program.
