Tests Required for Graduation

Georgia High School Graduation Test
A passing score on all sections of the Georgia High School Graduation Test (administered for the first time in the 11th grade) is required for any regular high school diploma.  A student's first opportunity to take the high school graduation tests will be in the fall of the junior year at which time the writing test will be administered.   The Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies tests will be administered for a student's first time during the spring of his/her junior year.  In the summer following junior year and during senior year, students have the opportunity to retake any tests not passed in the junior year.  Students must pass all five portions of the graduation tests in order to graduate and participate in the graduation ceremony.  The Georgia High School Graduation Test contains, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Writing.  Test review/prep materials may be downloaded at www.doe.k12.ga.us/curriculum/testing/ghsgt.asp

End of Course Tests (EOCT)
The Georgia Department of Education has developed end-of-course tests in select academic areas (9th grade Literature, American Literature, Biology, Physical Science, Algebra I, Geometry, Economics, and US History).  Effective beginning with the fall 2004 administration of the exams, the EOCT will be used as the final exam in affected courses.  Final exam grades from the EOCT will count as 15% of a student's final grade in the course.  EOCT scores will become part of the student's permanent record.   For additional information about End-of-Course Tests (including downloadable study guides), please visit the Georgia Department of Education's website at http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/curriculum/testing/eoct.asp .
