Anne Carpenter is a native Atlantan and has been teaching in FC school for over 30 years. She attended the University of Georgia and Georgia State University where she obtained a specialist degree in Science Education. She is currently a National Board Certified teacher and department chair for science.

Melissa Beam started her teaching career at Milton High School in the 2000-2001 school year. She holds a Bachelor's degree in biology from the University of North Carolina and an M.Ed. in Science Education from The University of Georgia. Melissa is the Senior Class sponsor and Beta Club sponsor.

Coleman Binford -- email

Coleman has been teaching science for 15 years, all in Fulton County, 2 of those years at Crestwood High School and the last 13 at Chattahoochee High School. He has taught chemistry, physical science and physics including honors physics. This year, he will be teaching physical science. He holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Emory University.

In addition to teaching science, Coleman will also be coaching here at Alpharetta High School. He is one of the cross country coaches here at AHS and tentatively plans on helping to coach the track and field team. In addition to coaching those sports for many years, he has coached wrestling and baseball in the past.

He is a native Atlantan and is recently married. He and his wife Melissa, who is also a Fulton County teacher, live in Duluth. He looks forward to the challenge and reward of investing in the lives of the young people at Alpharetta HS.

Mr. Schertz comes from Sprayberry High School where he taught chemistry and physical science. Before teaching, he spent 6 years as a chemist for Kimberly-Clark where he developed new materials for Huggies diapers and contributed to 38 U.S. patents for new plastic materials.

In addition to teaching, Coach Schertz is also an assistant to the varsity softball and JV baseball teams. Mr. Schertz is now closer to home, with his wife, Casey, and 2 boys, Owen and Jonah. He is excited about the new opportunities at Alpharetta High School.


Suzanne Sheckter -- Mrs. Sheckter's Website -- email

Suzi Sheckter comes to Alpharetta High School from Milton High School where she spent 3 years teaching biology and human anatomy. Prior to joining Fulton County teachers, she taught at the Howard School for students with learning and language difficulties. Before starting her career as a teacher, she was a large animal handler for Zoo Atlanta working primarily with elephants and large cats. Suzi graduated from Auburn University with a degree in zoology abd attended Kennesaw State University to receive her Secondary Science Education degree. She coached freshman volleyball atMilton for 2 years and varsity volleyball for The Howard School. Suzi is currently the Senior class co-advisor, Key Club sponsor and Environmental Club co-sponsor.
