"Teaching English has been a passion for me for over 30 years. I received my bachelor's degree at Illinois State University in 1973, which at the time was a teacher's college. I have taught in four different states and just about every grade level. Here at Independence , I teach Contemporary Literature and World Literature, both senior courses
"Henry Hartman, published author, believes, “Success always comes when preparation meets opportunity.” I believe that every student, given a nurturing, supportive, and encouraging environment can learn and grow, and I try to provide that type of environment in my classroom. .
"Each year as I consider the classes that I will teach, I spend time preparing, revising, and updating the curriculum. It is a time to reflect on what worked and what didn't. It is also a time to consider the individuality of each student and to provide each with various types of lessons and assessments that will meet different learning styles and allow each to be successful. My experiences as an educator have taught me that most students attempt to live up to teachers' expectations if inspired, and I hope to be and continue to be that catalyst for them. " Deborah Wells.
