Power Over Prejudice Club

On September 13, ten of our students attended a Power Over Prejudice (POP) summit on the Georgia Tech campus to learn more about prejudice in our schools. They participated in various activities relating to stereotyping and bullying. They also listened to a speaker named Dr. Schaefer, an African-American who helped to liberate the concentration camps at the end of World War II. His words on the mistreatment of both Blacks and Jews were very meaningful. During the day, the students discussed ways to battle prejudice in their schools. When they got to school, our students merged the students who went last year and formed the P.O.P. Club. Together they brainstormed various ways to get the school involved in battling prejudice. They are currently filming several skits that show different forms of prejudice in the school. The films will be shown to the sixth grade classes during classroom discussions on combating bullying presented by Ms. In and Mrs. Martinez. The club will continue to find different ways to combat prejudice and make the school more understanding and open to difference. Hopefully, the POP club will be a success!
