Academic Bowl in Action
The Haynes Bridge Academic Bowl team was in action this past weekend at the Chattahoochee Tournament. Our school entered two teams: an eighth grade team coached by Mr. Cassidy, and a sixth and seventh grade team coached by Mr. Fowler. The eighth graders scored two convincing wins in the preliminary rounds. Our school’s two teams squared off against each other in round 4, with the 6th & 7th graders winning by 20 points. The win gave them a 3 and 2 record in the preliminaries. Our two teams were again pitted against each other in the first round of playoffs, with the eighth grade team eager for revenge. The upper-class men lead throughout the match, however, sixth grader. Will June, correctly answered the last question of the round, and his team mates completed the bonus, giving the 6th & 7th graders yet another victory over the eighth graders. The young team would eventually lose to a very strong Chamblee team, but their fortitude, courage and determination showed they will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
