Our Mission

The mission of the Centennial High School learning community is to provide all students with rigorous, relevant learning experiences that build relationships, to offer ample opportunities to exercise critical thinking skills, and to refine social behavior that will transfer into full participation in the global society. Course Registration Season Has Begun for 2010-11
Students received registration information in advisement on January 20. In the coming weeks, students will have an opportunity to select their classes for next year. Students should consult the curriculum guide for information about the courses offered at Centennial. See registration guidelines for additional dates and information. Some courses require a request for registration/intent form. See below for a list of courses whose request for registration/intent forms are available online.
Junior Parent Night - Feb 10
The Centennial counseling department will present Junior Parent Night on Wednesday, February 10 at 7:00pm in the auditorium. This This event is specifically designed to give parents and students information they need about the college admission process. The presentation will include the following topics:
  • required and recommended high school curricula
  • college admission factors
  • comparing colleges - finding a "fit"
  • college application process
  • college admissions testing
  • HOPE scholarship adn financing higher education
  • resources for assistance
  • important dates and deadlines
Centennial Partners with AFI for Teen Safe Driving Initiative
This winter sports season, Centennial will participate in American Family Insurance's Teen Safe Driver Program. Centennial is one of 412 schools across the country that has been specifically chosen by AFI to participate in this program. In addition to the funding already coming back to Centennial for its involvement in the program, Centennial has the chance to win an additional $25,000, $10,000, or $5,000 (and other prizes). In order to win these prizes, parents and students need to sign the on-line pledge. The schools with the highest percentage of pledges will win the prizes.
Attention Sophomores and Juniors!
Practice makes perfect… The PRA exam will be offered again on the February early release day (February 24). The PRA is a test created by The Princeton Review to expose students to both the SAT and ACT. It is a measurement tool that can help students determine if they would score higher on the SAT or ACT. The PRA has seven 25-minute sections and one 30-minute SAT essay section. Test takers will receive a comprehensive score report detailing students’ strengths and weaknesses on both the SAT and ACT. Hardship Transfer Applications - Deadline March 1
Applications are now available for parents who wish to apply for a 2010-11 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to another Fulton elementary, middle, or high school. This deadline applies to students and parents seeking a hardship transfer for medical reasons, curriculum differences, child care situations, or for employees’ children. Parents can use the online form or can pick up an application at any Fulton County school. The deadline for submitting a transfer application is March 1, 2010, by 4:30pm, with no exceptions or extensions granted. All requests must be received or postmarked by this date and time. PTSA Volunteer Scholarships
The PTSA annually offers scholarships to recognize exceptional dedication to volunteerism among the senior class. This year the PTSA Volunteer Scholarships, in the amount of $500 each, will be awarded to several students who best exemplify the PTSA’s ideals of outstanding commitment to service-oriented activities through school and community. Any graduating senior with a GPA of 80 or higher who is enrolling at a college, university, or technical institute of higher learning may apply. Applicants must be a member of the PTSA by the end of first semester to be eligible. Applications are available online (see the forms link) as well as in the Media Center and Counseling Office. Fulton County Offers Online Meal Payment System
On January 1, 2010, Fulton County will begin offering MealpayPlus, a state-of-the-art online service that offers parents the convenience and information they need to manage their student’s meal account. This system will eliminate the need to send checks to school or worry about lost or forgotten lunch money, and speeds up serving lines in the cafeteria. For a small program fee, MealpayPlus allows any family to:
  • Make a prepayment into their student’s meal account using a credit or debit card at MealpayPlus. Funds deposited through MealpayPlus are usually available for student use within a matter of minutes.
  • Create settings to automatically replenish their student’s account when it reaches a low balance.

On Friday, January 22, the swim team participated in the North Fulton Championship meet and took third place overall. The girls team finished in 1st with the the boys placing 6th.
Band Members Selected for Festival
Eighteen members of the Mighty Marching Knights Band have been selected to participate in the 60th annual University of Georgia January festival from January 21-24.
Wrestling Advances to State Duals
The Knights wrestling team placed 2nd in the area duals competition hosted at Centennial on Monday, January 11. They have advanced to the state competition for the 7th consecutive year and will compete at the Macon Centreplex on January 15-16.

Avalon, Centennial’s literary-art magazine, has received a Gold Medalist Critique from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 2008-2009 edition of Avalon.
Cross Country Finishes in the Top Ten at State
At the state cross country meet in Carrollton on Saturday, November 7, the girls team placed 6th with junior Kelly Meyer finishing 15th overall. The boys team took 8th with senior Ryan Knobbe placing 16th.

Fencing Dominates at Tournament
The Fencing Knights dominated at the fencing tournament hosted by Centennial on Saturday, October 17. Centennial had four men in the top eight, two winning gold and bronze medals, and six women in the top eight, two winning silver and bronze medals.
Art Students Display Work at Fair
Ten art students had their work selected to be displayed at the Georgia National Fair from October 8-18 in Perry, GA.
Reflections Winners Announced
The names of the winning entries in the 2009-2010 PTSA Reflections program have been selected. These fifteen students’ entries will advance to the North Fulton Council level of judging.
NFL Chapter Earns Prestigious Award
Centennial's chapter of the National Forensic League has earned the Leading Chapter Award in the GA Northern Mountain District. Of 2900 NFL member schools nationwide, Centennial is one of only 105 schools to earn this award.

Centennial is one of 27 Georgia high schools designated as an AP Merit School by the College Board, a distinction that recognizes those with at least 20 percent of students taking AP exams and with at least half of those exams receiving a score of three or higher.
