At Alpharetta Elementary, our students are served by a seasoned staff and a variety of resources. Alpharetta offers personnel in both general and special education. Fifty percent of the staff have a masters degree or higher and have an average of 14+ years of teaching experience.

School begins at 7:50 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m.

As a K-5 elementary school, we presently have:

  • 1 Pre-kindergarten class
  • 6 Kindergarten classes
  • 6 First grade classes
  • 6 Second grade classes
  • 7 Third grade classes
  • 5 Fourth grade classes
  • 4 Fifth grade classes
  • 8 Special education classes

Our average class size varies with the grade level requirements and is well below the required state class size allowances.

All kindergarten classes have full-time assistants and all of our other classes have part-time assistants.

Curriculum

Our curriculum, at all grade levels, addresses the disciplines of language arts, math, social studies, science and health. Our teachers use an interdisciplinary approach with strong emphasis on writing and problem solving.

Most classes are self-contained. Cross-class grouping may be used to meet the individual needs of our students. A departmentalized-learning approach is used at fourth and fifth grades.

In addition to our regular curriculum, all students receive:

Physical Education — two 45 minute periods weekly with a specialist
Art— one 45 minute period weekly with a specialist
General Music (K - 3) — one 45 minute period weekly with a specialist
Music Options (4 - 5 ) — one 45 minute period weekly of General Music or two 45 minute periods weekly of band, orchestra or chorus

Supplementary Programs

The curriculum is enhanced and/or supplemented at all grade levels by a wide variety of materials and/or programs.

Additional Features

The Eagle's Nest is an outdoor classroom which features an amphitheater and a learning pond. Our parent volunteers, faculty and staff have worked together to develop the center which is a certified wildlife habitat. Our students experience hands-on activities in the environmental 3 Rs (recycling, reducing, and reusing) which promote a healthy respect for the environment for generations to come.
