What to Expect

Time Expectations

Virtual Campus students are expected to atte= nd and participate in their online education courses as fully as they would at= tend and participate in a traditional classroom course.

At a minimum, Fall and Spring students are required to log in and perform work in their online courses at least 4 times a week, dispersed throughout the week (i.e., not five visits in one or two days).

Summer school students are required to login and perform work at least 5 times a week. Courses offered during the summer semester are the exact courses off= ered during the fall and spring. T= he course schedule has been amended to accommodate = only 5 or 6 weeks of study instead of 18. The pace is very fast.

If there is no activity or login from a student in one week, the Virtual Campus Administrator will be contacted. Unless prior communications hav= e been received from the student, parent, or home school regarding the studentR= 17;s absence, a student who fails to lo= g in and participate in his/her online course for two weeks may be dropped from = the course.

Attendance is measured by contributions made through communication via discussion threads, e-mails, Digital Drop Box, chat sessions, and/or through the submission of assignments, projects, and tests. Each time a student enters a Virtual Cam= pus course, participation is automatically recorded and the length of time in e= ach area is noted.

Homework and Absence Policy

Students are expected to log into their online course at least 4= times a week (during Fall and Spring and 5 times a week during Summer), spr= ead throughout the week, unless otherwise indicated by the instructor. It is the nature of online courses= to be structured by tight deadlines to facilitate the movement through the course. Homework is to be com= pleted by assigned deadlines. If work is going to be late, it is= the responsibility of the student to c= ontact the instructor prior to the due date.&= nbsp; Assignment Sheets and calendars are provided to assist the student w= ith benchmark dates set for completion of unit assignments. All work assigned during an allotted time period must be completed within that time frame.

In cases of extended student illness (five days or more), the student may eith= er contact the online course instructor directly to notify the instructor of a= ny delay in providing assigned work or the parents may contact the Virtual Campus Administrator to make arrangeme= nts for work that will need to be made up.&nbs= p; A doctor’s note is required.

Reading and Writing Expectations

Students who do not like to read or have difficulty reading should not take an online course.

Students who cannot communicate effectively in writing should not take an online cou= rse.
