Educational Services What
are Supplemental Educational Services? Supplemental
educational services are free tutoring or other services
in addition to what is provided during the regular school
day. This extra math and reading help may be held after
school, on Saturdays, during the summer, or other times
outside the regular school day. The services may be provided
by the school system or by a private provider. If offered
in a location other than the students' home school, the
parent will need to provide transportation. The
services provided must be of high quality; research based
and must be proven to increase student achievement.
Who
is eligible to receive Supplemental Educational Services?
To
be eligible for Supplementary Educational Services, a
child
Must attend a school on the state's Needs Improvement list
and
Qualify to receive free or reduced lunch
Priority will be given to students with the lowest test scores.
If
your child is eligible, you will receive a letter giving
you more information. Who
are the approved vendors? All
providers of Supplemental Educational Services must be
approved by the Georgia Department of Education. For the

. If a private company is selected, there are caps on
the amount of money that may be spent. The parent and provider
would work out schedules, and the school system would reimburse
the provider up to the amount allowed by law. Any services
provided after the school system had spent the maximum amount
would have to be paid for by the parent. Summary
