Supplemental Educational Services

What are Supplemental Educational Services?

Supplemental educational services are free tutoring or other services in addition to what is provided during the regular school day. This extra math and reading help may be held after school, on Saturdays, during the summer, or other times outside the regular school day. The services may be provided by the school system or by a private provider. If offered in a location other than the students' home school, the parent will need to provide transportation.

The services provided must be of high quality; research based and must be proven to increase student achievement.

Who is eligible to receive Supplemental Educational Services?

To be eligible for Supplementary Educational Services, a child

•  Must attend a school on the state's Needs Improvement list and

•  Qualify to receive free or reduced lunch

•  Priority will be given to students with the lowest test scores.

If your child is eligible, you will receive a letter giving you more information.

Who are the approved vendors?

All providers of Supplemental Educational Services must be approved by the Georgia Department of Education. For the most current list of vendors, go to http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/_documents/support/plan/service_providers.pdf . If a private company is selected, there are caps on the amount of money that may be spent. The parent and provider would work out schedules, and the school system would reimburse the provider up to the amount allowed by law. Any services provided after the school system had spent the maximum amount would have to be paid for by the parent.
