Throughout the year, Fulton students participate in standardized testing as part of the statewide testing program. Spring, however, is an especially important testing season. Click here for the complete schedule.

During the week of April 16, students in first through eighth grade will take the Georgia Criterion Referenced Competency Tests. The purpose of the CRCT is to provide information on academic achievement at the student, class, school, system, and state levels. This information is used to diagnose individual student strengths and weaknesses and to gauge the quality of education throughout Fulton County and the state.

High school students also face high-stakes testing. Juniors take the Georgia High School Graduation Tests (GHSGT) during the week of March 19. Students must pass all sections of the tests in order to graduate. End-of-course tests, given in identified high school subjects, are administered in late April/early May and count for 15% of a student’s final course grade.

residency affidavit

A policy begun this year will continue in 2007-08 when all Fulton parents will be asked to complete an Affidavit of Residency and provide two proofs of residency, such as a current utility bill or a driver’s license.

The reason is that Fulton County Schools has become a victim of its own success. Regarded as one of the best school systems in the state of Georgia, some families who live out of our district are finding creative ways to enroll their children in our schools. These families are taking advantage of our outstanding programs and services – without paying the Fulton taxes that are used to fund our schools.

SPLOST logo

For almost 10 years, Fulton County students have benefited from the proceeds of a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). This one-penny sales tax was first approved by voters in March 1997 and renewed in March 2002.

On March 20, 2007, Fulton citizens will vote on whether to continue SPLOST for an additional five years.

LSAC

2007 marks the 20th anniversary of Local School Advisory Councils (LSAC) in Fulton County Schools. Now mandated by law in all Georgia schools, Fulton was an early leader in seeing the benefits of bringing parents, staff and the business community together for school improvement.

School councils meet regularly with the principal to review progress towards strategic goals and objectives. They contribute to the development of the local school budget, discuss ways to improve communication between the school and home, and provide input on everything from extracurricular activities to dress codes.
budget
It takes approximately $735 million dollars to run an organization the size of the Fulton County School system. Sixty-five percent of that money comes from local Fulton taxpayers. You are encouraged to learn more about how your tax dollars are spent. The Fulton County Board of Education is beginning budget deliberations for the 2007-08 school year. All budget meetings are open to the public, are videostreamed live on the Fulton County Schools web site, and then re-broadcast on FCSTV on Comcast Channel 24.
ConnAcademy

Is your child a rising 11th or 12th grader who wants to work in a challenging environment where they can solve real-world problems? Can they set goals, manage their time, and work independently while guided by an instructor? Are they interested in completing an internship before heading off to college? If so, Connected Academy might be the right school for them.

Opening in August 2007, Connected Academy currently is seeking students to join its inaugural class. You and your student are invited to attend an Information Night on March 26, April 24, or May 21. The
meetings all begin at 7 p.m. at the Milton Center, 86 School Drive in Alpharetta.
Please share the following news with your neighbors who have children entering kindergarten next year, or other elementary-aged children who will be attending Fulton Schools for the first time.

Registration for NEW Fulton County elementary students takes place May 2 and 3. This applies to rising kindergartners and students who are currently not enrolled in Fulton but plan to attend our elementary schools beginning in August. Registration will be held in each elementary school from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. on May 2 and from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. on May 3.
