How can parents help their children be successful in a language classroom?
1. Discuss the importance of being Bilingual in today's world. Benefits of being Bilingual
2. Help your child make time to practice. Learning a language is like playing an instrument and students will need all the practice they can get.
3. Have your children teach you to say something in the language everyday. Research shows that through explanation and teaching, learning occurs.
4. Find cultural events connected to the language and culture being studied. Be sure to check back to the WL website for up to date events going on in the metro Atlanta area.
5. Ask the teacher for resources your child can use at home.
6. Provide videos, books and music in the language. Students who are interested in learning a language will find these tools useful.
7. Look for opportunities to use the language outside the classroom. Study abroad opportunities are plentiful and there are also language camps that give students an opportunity to speak the language on a consistent basis with their peers.
8. Be an advocate for World Languages. World Language Advocacy
