More than 60,000 students are enrolled in music classes in grades K-12 in Fulton County, the fourth largest school district in Georgia.  Elementary programs include general music for all students in kindergarten through fifth grade and band or orchestra beginning in fourth grade. In grades six through twelve, a wide variety of music courses are offered to meet the interests of students, including general music, band, chorus, orchestra, jazz band, show choir, music appreciation, piano, guitar, and AP music theory.

Instrumental and vocal ensembles from Fulton County have performed at numerous regional, state, national, and international festivals and competitions, including Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Music Educator’s National Conference, Georgia Music Educator’s Association, the National Concert Band Festival, American Choral Directors Association, America String Teachers Association, and the Southern Instrumental Directors Conference. Fulton County Schools has been named one of the "Best 100 Communities for Music in America" by the American Music Conference each of the past seven years, an honor that has been bestowed upon only three school districts nationwide since AMC first gave the award in 2000.

Fulton County Schools is home to two magnet programs that offer specialized instruction in music, art, drama, dance, and television production. Tri-Cities High School in East Point is the home of the Visual & Performing Arts magnet program, and North Springs High School in Sandy Springs is the home of the Arts & Sciences magnet program.
