Erin Rogers

Congratulations to Erin Rogers for earning her National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Art!

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards recently announced that six teachers in the Fulton County School System earned the coveted “National Board Certified” designation.  National Board certification is the highest credential in the teaching profession and is a mark of distinction, similar to the way the medical, engineering and accounting professions recognize expertise.

Certification is achieved through a rigorous, performance-based assessment that typically takes one to three years to complete and measures what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do. As part of the process, teachers build a portfolio that includes student work samples, assignments, videotapes and a thorough analysis of their classroom teaching. Additionally, teachers are assessed on their knowledge of the subjects they teach.

Congratulations to Mary Nowak for being named the GAEA Croy West Special Needs Art Educator of the Year! Mary was presented the award and recognized for her many years of work with art students with special needs at the Saturday night gala banquet at the Fall Georgia Art Education Association Conference held in Young Harris.

Elementary School Teacher of the Year

Art teacher, Katina Krass from Lake Forest Elementary School has two exciting things to celebrate – being named her newly opened school’s first-ever Teacher of the Year and being named the school system’s overall Elementary Teacher of the Year. These two honors, however, pale in comparison to the rewards she gets from teaching art education to children.

The daughter of a teacher, Krass grew up with the knowledge that teachers create special bonds and make lasting impressions on those they teach. She has carried this into her classroom and strives to bring, in her own words, “meaning and magic, delight and awareness, and the ideal of beauty and truth to enrich the lives of young minds.”

Krass attended private school as a child and never experienced art education within the school setting. This has led her to seize the opportunities she has with her students and to inspire them to see and experience the world through artistic expression.
