:: ABOUT SAP

To support on-going business operations, Fulton County Schools is embarking on a project to replace aging and suboptimal business systems software with an enterprise resource planning system called SAP.

The project as it is currently planned will be completed in two phases. Phase I had a targeted completion date of early October 1, 2007, and Phase II has a targeted completion date of May 1, 2008.

Why is Fulton County Schools undertaking this project?

  • Currently FCS has a number of inefficient and redundant data management processes.
  • Replacement of FCS business systems software is required to break the cycle of inefficiency and implement the best business practices embedded in SAP and related third-party software solutions.
  • By eliminating paperwork, reducing duplicate manual processes, and implementing a more reliable and scalable solution, FCS will have constructed a foundation able to meet the future educational needs of an aggressively growing county.

What will be achieved?

  • Significantly improved efficiency of FCS’ operations and management in the areas of finance, personnel administration, payroll, pension administration, purchasing and inventory control.
  • Improved quality and access to data available to decision makers and stakeholders at all levels in the organization.
  • Improved reliability and stability of the systems supporting the key areas of operations.
  • A comprehensive and robust IT solution that optimizes the total cost of ownership and is adaptable to meet the future needs of FCS.

How will this benefit employees?

  • SAP is a “Best Business Practices” information system.
  • Data integrity is improved. Data is entered once and used by all.
  • There is only one technology to learn and support.
  • SAP provides the ability to report on and analyze the organization as a whole instead of one department at a time.
  • SAP provides automation of manual processes, thus increasing productivity.
