To support on-going business operations, Fulton County Schools has embarked upon a project to replace aging and suboptimal business systems software with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system called SAP

The project is being completed in phases. Phase I-A (Logistics and FICO) was completed on October 1, 2007, and Phase I-B (HCM) was rolled out January 4, 2008.

Currently, approximately 1,000 FCS employees are using the SAP system for their day-to-day administrative tasks.   Phase II (Employee Self-Service and Manager Self-Service) is targeted for completion in Spring 2009, and it will enable all 14,000 FCS employees to access and maintain their personnel information.

FCS Business Process Owners (BPO) have been incredibly supportive of this endeavor. Jean Sina, Executive Director of Budget, enthuses, "SAP has allowed principals and department heads access to view their budgets online and in real time - this increases the fiscal accountability at the site level."

Why did Fulton County Schools undertake this project?

  • FCS had a number of inefficient and redundant data management processes.
  • Replacement of FCS business systems software was required to break the cycle of inefficiency and implement the best business practices embedded in SAP and related third-party software solutions.
  • By eliminating paperwork, reducing duplicate manual processes, and implementing a more reliable and scalable solution, FCS now has constructed a foundation able to meet the future educational needs of an aggressively growing county.

What has been achieved?

  • Significantly improved efficiency of FCS’ operations and management in the areas of finance, personnel administration, payroll, pension administration, purchasing and inventory control.
