School Nurse Day celebrated in Fulton County
May 12, 2010, was National School Nurse Day. On this day, schools around the country and in Fulton County recognized the contributions that school nurses have made over the years.
Sponsored by the National Association of School Nurses, the purpose of this day is to celebrate school nurses and to promote awareness of their importance in the educational setting.
The role of the school nurse is varied and diverse depending on the school setting and area. Nonetheless, school nurses everywhere share some commonalities, which include being passionate about student health and wellness, providing the best care possible to students and their families, and being responsible for improving health and education outcomes.
The Fulton County School System is fortunate to have cluster nurses, special education nurses and clinic assistants, such as Michelle Dowling at College Park Elementary School (pictured), that work together every day to ensure that students’ health needs are met. They also assist in keeping students and staff healthy, which certainly impacts student achievement.
