Open Enrollment Information

May 15 is the deadline for Open Enrollment applications

The Fulton County School System has identified 16 schools that can accept transfer students next school year through Georgia’s Quality Basic Education Act (also called House Bill 251).

Approved in 2009, the Intra-District School Choice section of the law allows parents of students enrolled in a public K-12 school to enroll in another school within the district if space allows.

Electronic applications must be submitted no later than 4:30 on May 15, 2015.  Parents will be notified of their child’s transfer status by June 30, 2015.

How schools are chosen for participation in Open Enrollment

Using the classroom allocation model which considers projected enrollment and the instructional program needs of each student, identified elementary and middle schools are anticipated to have classroom space for the appropriate school year. High school space is determined based on state capacity. Charter schools are excluded from this transfer option.

IEP requirements and GHSA eligibility cannot be guaranteed for students accepting transfers. Parents may rank their choices for school transfer on the application where indicated. Applications will be assigned a lottery id number which will be used to randomly select approvals for transfers should the number of applicants surpass the number of available seats at each schools. If students are not chosen for their first choice of transfer, the application will be considered for the secondary choice(s).

PLEASE NOTE : Approval of one child under Open Enrollment does not ensure approval of siblings for current or future school years.
