February is American Heart Month! 
Check out how school meals are the best choice when it comes to heart healthy eating!

Tips for Heart Healthy Eating:

  • Choose lean meats and poultry without skin and prepare them without frying or adding fats.  Your café serves lean meats and protein options and doesn’t fry foods!

  • Eat fish at least twice a week. Your café offers seafood every Friday!

  • Select fat-free, 1% fat and low-fat dairy products.  Your café serves fat-free and 1% milk!

  • Cut back on foods containing partially hydrogenated vegetable oils to reduce trans fat.  School meals have zero grams trans fat!

  • To lower cholesterol, reduce saturated fat to no more than 5 to 6 percent of total calories.

  • Cut back on beverages and foods with added sugars. Limit sweet tea, juices, sodas, candy and traditional desserts. Your café only serves extra beverages and snacks that meet the Smart Snacks nutrition guidelines!

  • Choose and prepare foods with little or no salt. School meals are planned to meet established sodium targets for breakfast, lunch and snacks!

Farm Fresh Cauliflower will be served in all FCS Cafes in February!

 The fresh cauliflower served are grown in the local southeast US from family-owned Goodson Farms in Balm, Florida! Cauliflower is a cruciferous vegetable that is a great addition for heart healthy eating!

In January students let their taste buds decide who won the Epic Wrap Battle between sweet Hawaiian BBQ Chicken Wrap and the spicy Cajun Buffalo Ranch Chicken Wrap!

The votes are in and students loved both, but the spicy Cajun Buffalo Ranch Chicken Wrap reigned supreme!

FCS Cafes served more than 1,696 pounds of farm fresh strawberries in January!  YUM!
