FCS Cafes Serve Chef-Inspired Georgia Grown Kale & Apple Salad!

This December, your FCS cafés will feature a farm fresh and chef-inspired Kale & Apple Salad at lunch as part of Fulton County’s School Nutrition Farm to School Initiative. Maximizing peak freshness, the Kale was grown and harvested in Norman Park, Georgia, and the Apples are farm fresh from Hendersonville, North Carolina! Because both the kale and apples are grown close to home it helps support our local farming economy, and takes less fuel to get to our cafeterias. You’ve got to try this Kale & Apple Salad, served in the cafeteria as a side salad!

Breakfast for Lunch

Never had school breakfast before? Come by your school café during lunch and see what everyone is talking about! Check with your local school to see when Breakfast for Lunch will be served in December!

Feed Your Brain, Feed Your Body

Feed Your Brain, Feed Your Body Week is about promoting literacy and nutrition, by combining popular fiction novels and nutritious school lunches. Throughout the week the Holcomb Bridge Middle School café was transformed into Harry Potter’s Hogwarts University, Lord of The Rings Shire, Hunger Game’s Panem, and Percy Jackson’s Greek realm. Fun and healthy lunch menu options were featured each day such as Frodo’s Falafel Wraps, Gandalf’s Chef Salad, Tolkien’s Turkey Subs, and more! During the morning announcements, a brief synopsis of each book was read as well as information as to where the book could be found. This was a great way to highlight the relationship between brain and body health! Way to go Holcomb Bridge Middle School!
