FCS Cafes will Celebrate School Breakfast Week March 21-25!

Do you know what is being served for breakfast in your child’s school café?  Thanks to sound nutrition guidelines, school breakfast has changed for the better over the past few years! Fulton County School Nutrition menus feature healthier options, more fruits, locally-sourced produce, chef-inspired recipes, and more choices for kids!  Fulton County Schools are celebrating School Breakfast Week March 21 – 25, and your school café is ready to celebrate with Breakfast for Lunch, prize giveaways, trivia, and fun in the cafe!  Check out the breakfast menus at www.fcsnutrition.com or use the new Fulton County Schools mobile app to easily view menus!

Farm Fresh Strawberries!

In February, the Strawberries served at lunch were part of Fulton County’s School Nutrition Farm to School Initiative. The Strawberries were grown and harvested from 5th generation family farmers, Sewell Farms in Plant City, Florida. Since the Strawberries are grown nearby, they are at peak freshness, more environmentally friendly and help support our local farmers! School cafes across the district served the strawberries on Chef Salad Entrees, Side Salads, and with Fruit sides!

Green Eggs & Jam in honor of Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day!

Elementary schools across the district celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss' Birthday on Tuesday, March 2.  Heards Ferry Elementary Cafe creatively served Green Eggs & Jam at breakfast. The Eggs were garnished with fresh green parsley from the school garden!

March is National Nutrition Month

For the whole month of March, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is devoted to providing nutrition education and information to the public. School meals take part in National Nutrition Month every month by providing meals that are nutritionally sound and follow meal pattern standards based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
