Reasons Why YOU Should Be a Speech Language

Where Students Come First!


- System Coordinator for Communication Disorders and a Lead SLP

- Mentor assigned to each new SLP

- All new SLPs meet monthly

- Support at your first IEP meeting and others, as needed

- Provide a Resource Manual with an orientation

- Meet monthly with all SLPs in your area

- Provide CFY supervision if needed

- Assistive Technology Specialists assigned to each school

Materials and Supplies:

- System issued Lap Top Computer for each SLP

- Most recent assessment batteries provided for each school

- Computerized software scoring for some tests provided at each school

- Extensive core therapy materials including student software

- Desk top computers with software provided for students in therapy room

- Specialized materials provided for each area of exceptionality (Autism)

- Therapists encouraged to suggest materials, software that they have used



- New and renovated buildings

- 50% of therapists assigned to only one school; remaining 50% are itinerant


- Travel minimized based on school location and metro Atlanta traffic patterns

Professional Learning:

- Numerous opportunities offered through FCS, i.e. teleconferences, etc.

- Conference registrations approved by principals

- Duty leave provided by FCS


- Georgia rules have a maximum of 55; many states do not have a maximum number

- FCS - 40s, if possible

- Caseload based on severity of students as well as number of students
