As Fulton moves toward Charter System status, we have prioritized work in several key focus areas in an effort we have named "Building Our Future." During this initiative, work will be centered around:
- Designing an organization structure that helps Fulton better deliver on its mission and meet the needs of our students and communities
- Creating an efficient principal selection program that increases the quality of principal leadership capability
- Building an integrated performance management strategy, plan and tools that can be applied systemwide to align performance and develop critical capability
- Prioritizing resources and management attention through a disciplined framework to create a concise and detailed district Strategic Plan
Why are we beginning this work?
We listened to you, our employees. Your feedback over the past two years as part of the Charter System exploration process, along with those of our parents and community, determined that we need to build capacity and capability through hiring, developing and retaining the best talent, align our resources to address the most critical priorities of the district, and institutionalize consistent practices that drive student learning.
Connecting the Work
A key element of this work, developing a concise Fulton County Schools strategic plan, is also in progress. The strategic planning process brings together these efforts while building on Fulton's nearly two-year Charter System exploration.
After launching this effort in November, work is underway in several areas that surround three immediate focus areas: Organization Design and Structure, Principal and Staff Selection, and Performance Management. Each element builds toward our strategic plan, a blueprint for our future. All of these early phases of the Building Our Future work are expected to be completed in late spring 2012.
