Welcome to the Cohort 2 Implementation page! Thirty-seven schools (Cohort 2) are making the transition to the charter system during the 2013-2014 school year. This year, considered a Planning Year, these schools will focus on establishing and training their School Governance Councils.
The purpose of a School Governance Council (SGC) is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the governance of the school. We have created a School Governance Council Overviewfor Cohort 2 schools to provide you with information about the responsibilities and function of these new governance councils. On this page, you will also find a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about the charter system in general and the transition that the Cohort 2 schools will be making this year.

Principals learned about the new governance structure of the system including the important role of School Governance Councils, as well as the elections and appointments processes to establish Councils at their schools. Principals worked together to develop ideas for communicating about the charter system with their communities as well as brainstorm “get out the vote” efforts.
