Twenty schools (Cohort 1) made the transition to the charter system during the 2012-2013 school year. These schools have School Governance Councils that have worked to develop the strategic direction of the school and are requesting waivers that fall under "Universal Requests for Flexibility." (See the charter system application for more details).
The purpose of a School Governance Council (SGC) is to provide parents, school staff, and community members with a leadership role in the management of the school. We have created a School Governance Council Overview to provide you with information about the responsibilities and function of these new governance councils.
