McNair Middle School

Project Description

McNair Middle School will be the tenth of the prototypical middle schools (the third partial two-story configuration) designed for Fulton County Schools, although it is the first of the designs to incorporate a re-imagined academic environment that organizes the grade levels into 'neighborhoods', creating classroom and lab groupings to accommodate a personalized learning approach. The design also incorporates many of the updated Educational Specification items.

The plan is organized around a tandem corridor system linking the public zones (rotunda/commons, cafeteria, and gymnasium) with the academic areas. The Media Center, the symbolic heart of the school, has been reconfigured to allow greater access from all of the instructional wings, and includes a tiered congregational space that leads down to and connects the Eighth Grade area on the lower level.
