F.A.Q: General Questions

1. I just recently graduated from college with a BA in Elementary Education. I hope to teach in the Fulton area; I will submit a resume and application as soon as possible. Is there anything else I should be doing or checking in the mean time? Thanks for your time!

2. I have a B.S. degree in Marketing from the University of Tennessee, which I received in May 1996. I am a Human Resources professional, but would like to teach theater on the high school level. I have been involved with theater for many years, but cannot seem to find ANY answers as to the direction to head to become certified to teach theater and/or english in secondary education. Any suggestions?

3. I am a vet teacher with 20 years of experience with regular and special ed children. I recently changed school systems to get closer to home. I have been in my new school for only a year. I like my school, but I must make a job change. The county policy says that you have to teach at the same school for 3 years in order to make a change or transfer. I do not want to continue teaching interrelated resource. The teaching positions that I would like to have are SIA, remedial or coordinator of EST services. These jobs are filled by other teachers at my school. Are EST services always handled by counselors? Please advise.

4. What do you do when you have five minutes of class time left and you have nothing to do? Ideas for upper elementary, middle and high school students:

5. What do you do when a parent comes in and tells you that you are giving their child too much homework? I teach fifth grade.

6. Is there an approved book list for middle school readers? My son will be attending middle school next year and the books that he is bringing home from school are inappropriate.

7. This is a totally strange question - but here goes. I have a female student in one of my classes (eighth grade) who is flirting too much with me. I have a picture of my girl friend on my desk, just to discourage this kind of thing, but it is not working. I've been very careful not to be in the same room with her without someone else there. I've been waiting for her to get over it, but it's the end of January now and she is still coming on as strong as ever. Do any of you have any suggestions about what else I should do?

8. I have relocated to the Atlanta area and am trying to compile as much data as possible on the various school systems. I moved here from New Jersey where I was working as a resource room teacher in a middle school. I would appreciate any information you could offer on the special education programsin the Fulton County School System. If possible I would like to find a program that is progressive, supports an inclusion model, utilizes technology in the classroom and provides administrative support. Any information is greatly appreciated.

9. I am a fourth grade teacher teaching in South Fulton. I have put in for a transfer this year because of the commute. I originally lived only 20 mins. away. After I got married and bought a house, I am now 1 hour away from my school. I would really like to know what are my chances of transferring to North Fulton. I heard OCR has been giving the principals up north a hard time. Can I do anything specific to help my chances? Thanks!!
