The Fifth Congressional District of Georgia High School Art Contest is underway for another successful year. High School Art Teachers within the congressional district have been notified of this annual contest earlier this year.    The information to them included the following, as in previous years:
  1. completed artwork applications from the school to be submitted/faxed to  Anna Cherry in the congressional office by April 17, 2009 at FAX 404-331-0947
  2. artwork must be framed and no larger than 30" X 30", including frame
  3. No theme for artwork
  4. original two-dimensional artwork delivered to Youth Art Connection Gallery for installation now through April 17, 2009
  5. exhibition and reception on Friday,  May 8, hosted by COngressman John Lewis. Art participants, teachers, family, friends and administrators are invited
Each high school can submit ONLY  two pieces of original 2-Dimensional artwork for the juried contest. Please encourage the art teachers, again, at the following schools to participate by submitting their talented artist/s' work.
  1. Banneker High School 
  2. Tri-Cities High School
  3. Westlake High School
  4. McClarin High School

The Art Institute of Atlanta continues to be a major sponsor of this contest with $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 scholarships, respectively, to the first, second and third place juried winners. Savannah College of Art & Design also provides a $2,000 merit of art award to the first place contestant. All exhibiting students receive of certificate of participation signed by Congressman John Lewis, along with other prizes.
